It’s no surprise that we use English as a way of communicating with people from other countries, which makes it one of the most spoken languages in the world. But the curiosity that remains is: how did English become such an important language?
First of all, English is the first language of many countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada, for example. I believe this fact allowed the English language to become very known around the world and aroused people’s curiosity about the language itself.
Secondly, the United Kingdom is a part of multiple international organisations, like the UN or the EU, and English is one of its official languages. I think it helps people when they travel.
Thirdly, being English the language used in business, tourism, journalism, technology and medicine, it allows people to be able to get used to a language and be able to work overseas. People also get the chance of sharing their work and stories with everyone around the world.
Some people believe that learning English or any other second language is a waste of time, but I completely disagree with it. By learning another language, we grow up as individuals, mentally and intellectually. I also strongly believe that there should be a language in common for everyone around the world and English probably is that language.
In conclusion, countries, organisations and jobs allowed English to expand all over the world and become the global language it is nowadays.
